Bio
Nina Dakin is a Western Australian comic book writer, illustrator and storyboard artist. After having worked for the ABC as a storyboard artist for children's television, Nina discovered her true love in comic making.
From simple comics of biro in math’s notebooks, Nina's writing and drawing style has evolved, taking influence from free form visual poetry, webcomics and the local artists in WA's thriving comic scene. She has had her work published in numerous comic anthologies, including Myth, The West Coast Comic Anthology, Tale Town, and Westerly Magazine. She has worked with illustration clients such as Curtin University, Flight Magazine and Coze Journal.
Nina's comic, "As You Drive" won the bronze Comic Art Award of Australia, and her comic "The West Coast" won the inaugural comic category of The Best Australian Yarn Competition. Her comics are whimsical and expressive, and while she has explored many experimental works such as poetry comics, oil-painted comics, 3D sculptural comics, and choose-your-own-adventure comics, her passion lies in large scale graphic novels. When she is not in a flurry of comic thumbnails, you can find Nina chasing her pet chickens around the garden, painting or picking mulberries.
